Microsoft is ICANN accredited!
Microsoft became an ICANN accredited Registrar. What is behind this move?
For the moment Microsoft did not comment this story, but the move to become ICANN Accredited sounds logic, control on Domain Names means power, and Microsoft owns a few powerfull domains. Perhaps they simply do not want that another company manage their property. On the other hand Microsoft has the office live product, where for now its offers free domain names through Melbourne IT. They could cut costs and gain more control by using their own accreditation.
Another reason might be to improve search results based on data they retrieve on domain names (eg: registration date, whois info, etc…)
Microsoft is accredited since 31st Oct. 2006, lets see when they will publish a press release.
