Every Vista PC to get a domain name
Microsoft is on the way to enter new markets.
Want to be able to access your machine anytime, anywhere? Can’t be bothered purchasing a domain name and configuring Dynamic DNS? Microsoft has a solution: the “Windows Internet Computer Name” — a unique domain name for your computer. It´s simply nothing else as a Domain with a kind of Dyn DNS preinstalled or embeded in MS Vista.
The Windows Internet Computer Name is an advancement on the Peer Name Resolution Protocol (PNRP), which is a name registration and resolution protocol initially developed for Windows XP.
Unlike traditional DNS, where domain name servers are used essential to store a list of domain names and their corresponding numeric IP addresses, PNRP does all the domain name resolution via peer-to-peer. Put another way, users of Windows Vista provide PNRP domain name resolution services for other Windows Vista users.

But how does it affect the existing market of Domain Name Registrars? We learned what happened a few years ago with the browser market when Windows implemented their free MS Explorer. For the moment they are only ICANN Accredited, will they become accredited for ccTLD´s too? Will the low cost aftermarket become more interesting for end consumers that would like to buy back their last name? But what is sure is that Domain Registrations could grow … we will see …
